Don't Despair, We Do Glasses Repair!

Spectacles and sunglasses are often damaged when they’re dropped, misplaced, and/or accidentally sat on; with a surprising number being damaged during spectacle cleaning.

Typically, damage is likely to occur in three places – the frames, the bridge (over the nose) and the hinges. The best way to protect your glasses is to handle them gently at all times and put them in their case when they’re not being worn.

If, however, you are constantly taking your glasses on and off, it’s a good idea to attach a chain so you can wear them around your neck.

But if the worst happens, the good news is that we can help you with glasses repair here at Aphrodite Livanes Eyecare Plus Alexandra Hills.

Spectacle Statistics (1)

  • 66% of Australians wear prescription glasses
  • 37% wear their glasses at all times
  • 27% wear prescription spectacles most days

  • 31% of Australians wear prescription sunglasses
  • 35% of children who have visited an optometrist, have required spectacles

Spectacle Service and Glasses Repair

Many common issues can be repaired right here in our Alexandra Hills Optometry Clinic, for little or no cost. These simple fixes usually take less than half an hour:

  • Nose pad replacement
  • Screw replacement
  • Adjustment of frames
  • Cleaning and fitting of spectacles

We can also supply and fit small parts such as screws for glasses.

Sometimes however, spectacle and sunglass repair needs to be outsourced, with a turnaround of about a week (although wait time may be less if it is an urgent repair). For this reason, if you need your glasses every day, we do recommend always having a backup pair on hand in case of loss or damage.

These more involved repairs may include:

  • Joint repairs
  • Soldering
  • Frame repair or replacement
  • Replacement for badly scratched or broken lenses

Of course, sometimes the damage to glasses is too great, and new spectacles may be required, especially if the frames have been discontinued.

In this instance, we will conduct a new eye test to find the correct prescription, then you can choose new frames to suit. Most people can expect to receive their new spectacles and sunglasses within a couple of weeks.

When you do come in to collect them, we will ensure that your glasses fit properly. Correct spectacle fitting is important to eliminate any discomfort behind the ears or on the bridge of your nose. We will also do a spectacle adjustment if necessary and advise you on the care of your new glasses.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, our glasses do get broken.  If this happens to you, and you live or work in the Redlands, south-east of Brisbane, call us on (07) 3824 1878, or bring in your spectacles so we can assess and assist you with glasses repair.
